Judging and Awards

There is more than $125,000 up for grabs in the 2009 Calling All Innovators Africa competition!

The prizes are:

  • Grand Prize winner: $85,000 USD in cash; premium placement featuring the winning application on the top page of Nokia's newly announced Ovi Store , where consumers will find the best mobile applications and content for their Nokia devices; and paid travel to demo the winning application at a Nokia-specified event.
  • 2nd – 5th Place: $10,000 USD each in cash; premium placement featuring the winning application on a relevant category page in Nokia's newly announced Ovi Store, where consumers will find the best mobile applications and content for their Nokia devices.
Judge's Choice Award:
The top 10 submissions will receive the Judge's Choice Award, which provides a one-year membership in Forum Nokia Launchpad (value of 300 euros). All Forum Nokia Launchpad members receive access to exclusive resources and support. Entries can be submitted from July 16 2009 until November 15th 2009.

The winners of Calling All Innovators Africa will be announced by 10 December 2009.

Judging Criteria:
In order to be eligible for these prizes, you will firstly need to explain what about your app makes it unique and appealing for Africans. Remember to include this motivation with your submission.

Once you have convinced us, the Calling All Innovators panel of judges will closely review all of the applications submitted, and choose winners according to the following criteria:

  • Quality / Functionality: the application or service must be fully functional and run successfully on Nokia devices and platforms (S60 and/or Series 40).
  • Uniqueness, novelty value and innovativeness: display creativity in applications, use established technology in a unique way.
  • Usability / Creativity: leverage latest technologies to demonstrate superior design and ease of use (UI, graphics, etc.)
  • Commercial Viability / Market Potential: ability to fulfill users' needs, customer adoption.
