Attention Canadian Developers – Extra Cash Prizes Available For Your Local Apps!

Think of this as a "Canadian Content" – or CANCON – category. The 2010 Calling All Innovators contest has added special prizes for Canadian developers who submit locally relevant applications for Canadian consumers.

There is a total of $20,000 CDN cash available in special prizes for CANCON: $10,000 for the winner in the Entertainment category; and $10,000 for the winner in the Productivity category. One runner up in each category will receive a free Nokia smartphone. And remember, this is an additional incentive – you could still be a global contest winner.

Here's what you need to do for a chance to win the special prizes for CANCON:

  1. You must be a Canadian resident or your company must be based in Canada.
  2. Select either the Entertainment Category or Productivity Category
    • Entertainment apps must be compatible with S60 5.0 (360x640) devices, such as Nokia N97, N97 mini, 5800 XpressMusic, and 5230.
    • Productivity apps must be compatible with S60 3.2 (320x240) devices, such as Nokia E72 or Nokia 6790.
  3. Create an application that is relevant to consumers in Canada. Apps can be created in Web Runtime (WRT), Flash Lite, Java, or Symbian. The app must be available in at least one of English or Canadian French. Special consideration will be given to those entries that are available in both languages.
  4. Submit your entry to the contest by 10 June 2010 to qualify for both the Global and CANCON prizes. Submit your entry to the contest by 10 July 2010 to qualify for the CANCON prizes only. For a qualified entry, you must submit all of the files required for a successful installation of the app, and let us know which Nokia devices can run the app. Then, tell us about your app, and what makes it unique and appealing for Canadian consumers. Optionally, you can include supporting documentation about how your application works, what inspired you to create it, etc.
  5. Entries can be submitted for the special CANCON prizes until 11:59PM EDT on July 10th, 2010.
  • Deadline for submissions to the global contest: 10 June 2010
  • Deadline for submissions to qualify for CANCON prizes only: 10 July 2010
  • Announcement of winners: September 2010
Full details about the competition can be found in the official rules.

The submission period ends on 10 June 2010 for Global Prizes; and 10 July 2010 for CANCON prizes, so get started right away!
