Once the dealer and players seated at the poker table have been dealt their cards, you’ll be allowed to take a look at your three cards and decide whether you want to let the first bet ride or not. This decision can be successfully made by using the correct strategy detailed below:

– You must always let it ride if your first three cards make a winning hand.

– You must let it ride if your first three cards can possibly make a straight flush, and are higher than 2 – 3 – 4.

– You must let it ride if your first three cards can possibly make a straight flush, and have a gap in between. In addition, one of your three cards has a value of 10 or more.

– You must let it ride if your first three cards can possibly make a straight flush and have two gaps in between. In addition, two of your three cards have a value of 10 or more.

– Else, pull your first bet back.

We’d like to clarify here that the gap mentioned above implies the missing card from a sequence. For instance, a 5 – 7 – 9 hand has two gaps in between, because of the missing 6 and 8. On the other hand, there are no gaps in the 9 – 10 – J hand.

Although this strategy may seem like a conservative one, please note that it’s indeed the right strategy and is meant to be conservative in nature. In fact, you’ll see yourself pulling your first bet back most of the times.

Once the first bet has been settled, the dealer will turn over the first community card, bringing it into the face up position. You and the other players will be provided the option of either pulling back the second bet or letting it ride. Following is the correct strategy you can use with regard to this decision:

– You must let it ride if you’re in possession of any type of winning hand.

– You must let it ride if your first four cards can possibly make a straight flush.

– You must let it ride if your first four cards can possibly make a flush.

– You must let it ride if your first four cards can possibly make an outside straight, and one of the cards has a value of 10 or higher.

– Else, pull your second bet back.

We’d like to clarify here for the people who aren’t aware of the concept of inside straights and outside straights. The possibility of an outside straight arises when there are two possible cards that can complete your straight. To give you an example, if your current four cards are 5 – 6 – 7 – 8, the straight can be completed if you get a 4 or a 9. This is an outside straight draw and the odds of hitting a straight are double the odds if it were an inside straight.

Coming to the inside straight, let’s say your current four cards are 5 – 6 – 8 – 9. Now, your straight won’t be completed unless you get 7 as the final card. This is an inside straight draw.
